At Springboard, we’re on a mission to bridge the world’s skills gap, offering transformative online education in data science, UI/UX design, machine learning, and coding. Our courses may be tech-enabled, but we're ultimately human-centric: each student taps into a vast community throughout their time with us, engaging with fellow students, industry-expert mentors, student advisors, and career coaches, the goal of which is to successfully transition students into their dream job. Through this hybrid approach, we’ve helped thousands of learners revamp their careers and, by extension, their lives, with hundreds of top-notch job offers received every year and a near-perfect placement rate for our program graduates.

The Role

Springboard is launching an online Surgical Technician Career Training program for aspiring Surgical Technicians. Springboard is looking to hire an engaging Live Instructor with experience preparing students for the Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C) exam through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

The instructor will serve as a founding instructional partner and subject matter expert, helping shape live session content, pacing, learner engagement, and certification readiness for a first-of-its-kind training program. The ideal instructor must enjoy not only teaching, but also collaborating on live-session content design to build an exceptional learner experience from the ground up.

Responsibilities

LIVE INSTRUCTION

  • Every week over 18 weeks, facilitate 90-minute learning sessions (max 20–30 students per session) aligned to the course’s didactic curriculum and TS-C certification exam objectives.
    • Each lecture will be held a minimum of 2x weekly to accommodate multiple time zones.
  • Lead engaging, motivational sessions that reinforce key concepts and build learner confidence throughout the program.
  • Prepare independently for live sessions.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.
  • Deliver demonstrations and walkthroughs of surgical concepts, workflows, instrumentation, and operating room best practices as appropriate.
  • Lead dedicated TS-C certification review sessions toward the end of the didactic curriculum using NCCT-aligned preparation strategies.
  • Reinforce core curriculum topics including:
    • Surgical anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and pharmacology
    • Infection prevention and sterile technique
    • Operating room preparation and patient safety
    • Surgical instrumentation and equipment
    • Intraoperative assisting techniques
    • Surgical specialties and postoperative procedures
  • Help learners understand how classroom concepts translate into real-world operating room practices.
  • Respond to learner questions related to course content via email as needed.
  • Collaborate with mentors and the Springboard team to continuously improve learner outcomes, engagement, and certification readiness.

DESIGN

  • As this is a new program, partner with Springboard's Learning team to develop and refine session agendas, instructional materials, and lecture decks.
    • Note: We're looking for someone who enjoys building learning experiences—not simply delivering existing presentations. No branding or graphic design experience required.
  • Develop engaging learning activities using Kahoot and other interactive learning tools to reinforce retention and increase participation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience working as a Surgical Technician in an acute care hospital or surgical setting.
  • Current Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C) credential through NCCT or current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through NBSTSA.
  • Active certification must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in Surgical Technology (eg: training, precepting experience).
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in an online program.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex surgical concepts for learners with little or no prior healthcare experience.
  • Deep knowledge of:
    • Aseptic technique and sterile field maintenance
    • Surgical instrumentation
    • Patient positioning and OR safety
    • Surgical counts and specimen handling
    • General and specialty surgical procedures
    • TS-C certification exam content and preparation strategies
  • Passion for coaching adult learners entering the healthcare workforce.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience preparing learners for the NCCT TS-C certification exam.
  • Experience developing instructional materials, presentations, or curriculum.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms (eg: Canvas).
  • Experience using interactive engagement tools such as Kahoot, Mentimeter, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting learners through certification exam preparation.

Other Requirements

  • Excellent computer skills with reliable high-speed internet (no mobile hotspots).
  • Must be comfortable delivering live instruction through virtual meeting platforms.
  • Ability to work independently, think critically, and reliably commit to a recurring lecture schedule.
  • Ability to respond to Springboard communications within 24 hours and student questions within 24–48 business hours.
  • Strong learner empathy, excellent communication skills, and enthusiasm for supporting adults transitioning into healthcare careers.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with instructional designers, mentors, and program leadership as a founding member of a new program.
  • Must live and work in the United States.
