Lead Engineer

Ten is currently looking for an engineering leader to join our technology department in India. We’re looking for a Lead Engineer who will play a critical role in designing, building, deploying, and monitoring systems that scale across the business and to our millions of members globally.

Your role will involve leading a cross-functional team of engineers, collaborating with product, data, and platform teams to produce high-quality working software released on a frequent cadence. The team adopts a ‘you build it, you run it’ and DevOps mindset and likes to be hands-on in all aspects of the product lifecycle. You will be responsible for ensuring the software meets quality through rigorous automated testing and metrics. You will also be responsible for assessing and choosing the right solution for the task at hand whilst considering cost implications and other trade-offs. Your vision and ideas will be incorporated with a close working relationship with product to build the industry’s leading service.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of engineers, providing technical direction, coaching, and support.
• Design, build, deploy, and monitor scalable, high-quality software systems supporting Ten’s global member base.
• Work closely with Product, Data, and Platform teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Drive frequent, high-quality software releases, ensuring delivery is aligned with product priorities and business objectives.
• Champion a DevOps and ‘you build it, you run it’ mindset, taking ownership across the full product lifecycle.
• Maintain high engineering standards, with a strong focus on automated testing, reliability, performance, and measurable quality.
• Monitor and analyze engineering metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure system health and performance.
• Evaluate and select appropriate technical solutions, balancing scalability, performance, complexity, cost, and other key trade-offs.
• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance, helping the team make informed decisions on engineering approaches and technologies.
• Partner closely with Product to shape the technical vision, contribute ideas, and build industry-leading products and services.
• Continuously improve engineering practices and processes, encouraging innovation, collaboration, and a culture of ownership.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

• Fluent English (C2 proficiency) – Essential.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring software engineering teams, providing technical direction and supporting team development.
• Strong experience building and optimizing systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Excellent hands-on proficiency in Python.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS and Azure, as well as Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform.
• Hands-on experience with DevOps and infrastructure tooling, including CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes (K8s).
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog.
• Proven experience building, deploying, and monitoring distributed systems across both frontend and backend environments.
• Hands-on experience working with multiple data stores, including both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Demonstrable experience using AI to empower engineering teams and accelerate the software development lifecycle.

Desirable:

• Experience building AI agents and workflows, including autonomous systems or multi-agent architectures.
• Experience with Generative AI tools and frameworks, such as LangGraph, CrewAI, Hugging Face, and OpenAI APIs.
