CodePath is the largest educator of college computer science students in the country, having trained over 40,000 students from 1,000+ universities. Partners include Amazon, Google, and other leading technology companies. With a $150M initiative launched with Anthropic, CodePath is building one of the most ambitious AI workforce programs globally.

CodePath is expanding rapidly and scaling its team to match the speed of AI’s workforce transformation. This role will help architect the next frontier of their work, focusing on raising capital for courses, career support, and student outcomes.

The Grant Writer is responsible for crafting compelling narratives for national foundations and corporate partners, translating program data, student outcomes, and organizational strategy into proposals and reports that secure major commitments.

This role also involves collaborating with Finance, Delivery, Higher Education, and Data teams to stay updated on program metrics and impact, then transforming these insights into reusable assets, frameworks, and AI-enabled workflows for the entire team.

CodePath is an AI-native organization, and this role expects you to leverage AI tools to enhance efficiency. The ideal candidate will build systems that improve team output, allowing them to focus on strategy and judgment rather than repetitive tasks.

Key Activities

Proposal Development (~20%)

  • Lead or support major grant proposals, concepts, and letters of inquiry from prospecting through submission, ensuring compliance with funder guidelines and submission requirements.
  • Translate CodePath’s mission, programs, and impact into compelling, consistent narratives for the entire team.
  • Research, synthesize, and translate program data into funder-facing briefs, proposals, and supporting materials.
  • Develop frameworks and narratives to equip account owners to lead complex, high-value opportunities.

Grant Reporting and Compliance (~10%)

  • Serve as lead or supporting writer for major funder reports.
  • Provide account owners with narratives, data, and frameworks to lead complex funder reports and steward high-value relationships.
  • Proactively manage funder portal accounts, submission calendars, and organizational credentials.
  • Keep internal grant management systems (e.g., Asana) current.

Asset Development and Maintenance (~20%)

  • Build and maintain a shared library of reusable narrative assets, including program descriptions, boilerplate language, and proof points, to accelerate proposal writing.
  • Support fundraisers with ad-hoc narrative development.

Cross-Functional Collaboration (~20%)

  • Collaborate with the Sr. Manager of Development Operations and other departments (Finance, Delivery, Higher Education, Data) to collect and translate data, program updates, and student stories into funder-facing narratives.
  • Supply narrative inputs, source content, program context, data, and proof points for donor-facing assets alongside fundraisers and the Philanthropy Partnerships team.

Writing Enablement and Team Optimization (~30%)

  • Use AI tools to improve the efficiency of proposal, report, and asset development.
  • Track fast-moving organizational developments and impact metrics to keep fundraising materials current and accurate.
  • Develop and maintain proposal templates, writing frameworks, reusable assets, and funder-specific approaches to empower account owners to lead complex proposals and reports.
  • Document writing patterns and organizational knowledge to improve AI-assisted drafting and automate routine work while maintaining quality, accuracy, and a consistent CodePath voice.

Key Success Metrics

At 30 Days

  • Understand CodePath’s mission, program model, core narratives, impact data, and active funder portfolio.
  • Know the team’s proposal and reporting workflows, writing standards, and priorities.
  • Have met the cross-functional teams and know where necessary information is located.

At 60 Days

  • Contribute to active proposals or reports by translating existing CodePath information into clear, accurate funder-facing writing.
  • Manage assigned deliverables and deadlines, including funder requirements.
  • Add new or updated materials to the shared asset library.
  • Establish working relationships with key Finance, Delivery, Higher Education, and Data counterparts.

At 90 Days

  • Write proposals and reports that receive strategic refinements, not substantive rewrites.
  • Run assigned deliverables independently from information gathering through submission.
  • Navigate cross-functional relationships efficiently to obtain necessary information.
  • The shared library is stronger, easier for the team to find, adapt, and keep current.
  • Ship at least two repeatable or AI-enabled workflows that reduce manual effort and free the team for higher-value work.
  • Account owners lead their own proposals and reports on complex opportunities using frameworks and synthesis developed by you.
  • Become a trusted writing partner to the Philanthropy Partnerships team.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5–7 years of experience writing for institutional and corporate funders — proposals, letters of inquiry, and funder reports. Long-form, funder-facing, and written by you.
  • Proficient in building with AI, not just writing with it. Document recurring work, streamline it with AI tools, and hand the result to other people. Using tools like Claude or ChatGPT to polish a draft is not sufficient.
  • Self-driven data synthesis. Engage directly with data and finance teams, ask the right questions, and translate findings into accurate narratives without waiting for summaries.
  • Collaborative and curious. Desire to understand programs and strategy, not just the ask.
  • Ability to work at pace. Manage concurrent deadlines, shifting priorities, and evolving information.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with attention to detail and a strategic perspective.

Preferred

  • Experience in education, workforce development, or youth-serving nonprofits.
  • Experience in a social impact, tech, or tech-adjacent environment.
  • CRM management, with a preference for HubSpot.
  • Experience with Asana or similar project management platforms.
  • Comfort building simple visual assets (e.g., Canva).
