Here at Scout Motors, we’re carrying forward the heritage of one of the most iconic American vehicles in history. A vehicle dating back to 1960. One that forged the path for future generations of rugged SUVs and trucks and will do so once again.

But Scout is more than just a brand, it’s a legacy steeped in a culture of exploration, caretaking, and hard work.

The Scout brand is all about respect. Respect for the past and the future by taking an iconic American brand that hasn’t been around for a while, electrifying it, digitizing it, and loading it with American innovation. Respect for communities by creating a company that stands for its people and its customers. Respect for both work and play, with vehicles that are equally at home at a campsite, a job site, or on a Tuesday commute. And respect for our customers by developing two powertrains that meet their requirements — an all-electric powertrain as well as the Harvester™ range extender powertrain which includes a built-in gas-powered generator with an estimated 500 miles of combined range.

At Scout Motors, we empower our talented, inclusive, and entrepreneurial teams to innovate. What makes a Scout employee? Someone who is a visionary and a leader, who seeks new paths and shares lessons learned. A knowledgeable doer who collaborates across the company to build better. A go-getter with unrivaled passion.

What You’ll Do

As a Frontend Engineer on the Sales Engineering team, you will be a core contributor to the applications that power Scout’s sales and operational workflows. You will build intuitive, scalable, and efficient user experiences for the systems that support order management, customer operations, fulfillment, finance, and other critical business functions throughout the vehicle purchase lifecycle.

You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, business stakeholders, and cross-functional partners to deliver tools that enable teams to operate effectively and make informed decisions. You’ll take ownership of meaningful areas of the frontend architecture, contribute to technical decisions within your team, and help shape the user experience of the platforms that keep our business running.

You’ll have opportunities to modernize internal platforms, improve business processes through technology, and deepen your expertise in a complex, high-impact transactional domain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and develop scalable and performant frontend applications for web platforms
  • Define and drive implementation of best practices in frontend development, including accessibility, security, testing, performance, and maintainability
  • Mentor engineers on the team, fostering growth and raising the technical bar for frontend engineering
  • Work with Design and Product teams to deliver seamless and delightful user experiences while balancing technical feasibility and scalability
  • Make critical decisions on frameworks, tooling, and component architecture to support long-term code health and efficiency
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap, ensure alignment with business goals, and guide major initiatives from concept to launch
  • Collaborate with backend and platform engineers to ensure smooth integration and consistency across the digital stack
  • Be a hands-on contributor while influencing engineering culture and processes across the team
  • Identify, scope, and lead large technical projects, laying the groundwork for early-stage products to iteratively evolve and scale, and tame complexity and shore up reliability of existing systems
  • Assist in calibrating and developing the software engineering team
  • Champion pragmatic AI-assisted development, evaluating tools, contributing to team norms, and helping engineers use them effectively

What You’ll Bring

  • Education/Certifications: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • 8+ years of frontend engineering experience, with staff-level or equivalent technical scope
  • Deep expertise with popular tools/frameworks and libraries such as React, NodeJS, GSAP, etc., along with knowledge of their ecosystem and best practices. Experience with a mobile app development framework like React Native is a huge plus.
  • Experience in identifying, mitigating, and preventing common web application security vulnerabilities, and strong command of security best practices, secure coding principles, and integrating security into the development lifecycle is required
  • Expertise in micro-frontend architecture and its practical application in large-scale systems
  • Proven ability to drive the architectural direction for large-scale frontend systems, with extensive experience building complex applications that consume CRUD operations in GraphQL, RESTful, and/or RPC APIs, ensuring long-term scalability, maintainability, and performance
  • Deep knowledge of UI/UX design principles, responsive/mobile-first design, SEO, accessibility (WCAG), and performance optimization
  • Exposure to analytics, experimentation platforms, and feature flagging tools
  • Experience interfacing with an IAM / SSO system like Azure, Okta, or Auth0
  • Deep understanding of robust branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks (Playwright, Cypress), and cloud environments (AWS preferred)
  • Contribution to technical roadmaps and strategic planning, ensuring frontend initiatives align with overall business objectives and technology vision
  • Experience operating in startup settings, launching 0 to 1 product
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a passion for finding elegant solutions to complex challenges

Nice to have:

  • Experience building AI/ML platform foundations or developer AI tooling
  • Experience in automotive, mobility, retail, ecommerce, or digital consumer products
  • Experience building multi-tenant platforms and shared enterprise services
  • Experience with full-stack engineering experience — micro frontend architecture and mobile platform foundations (iOS, Android, React Native)
