Founding Fintech Engineer – Banking & Payments

This is a rare 0→1 opportunity to build a financial platform from the ground up within an established and profitable ecosystem.

We are looking for a highly hands-on Founding Fintech Engineer – Banking & Payments who has previously built serious financial infrastructure and now wants significantly more ownership.

You will work directly with the founders and alongside an existing technical developer to architect and build a neobank-style platform spanning business onboarding, KYC/KYB, accounts, payments, cards, FX, ledgers, reconciliation, and money movement.

This is not a traditional engineering management position. We are looking for a strong individual contributor or technical lead who remains deeply technical, enjoys writing production code, and is comfortable solving difficult problems without an established playbook.

As one of the earliest engineers on the financial product, you will have substantial influence over architecture, technology choices, financial domain models, provider integrations, engineering standards, and eventually the team built around the platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and build core financial infrastructure, including accounts, balances, ledgers, KYC/KYB workflows, transaction state machines, and reconciliation systems.
• Design and implement integrations with regulated banking partners, card issuers, payment providers, and payment rails including ACH, wires, international payments, and FX.
• Build provider-independent architecture that enables integration with multiple banks and financial infrastructure partners without creating dependency on a single provider.
• Develop secure, reliable financial APIs and data models capable of supporting complex transaction and money-movement workflows.
• Build asynchronous systems involving queues, events, retries, idempotency, exception handling, and transaction processing.
• Develop card issuing and card management integrations alongside multi-currency and FX functionality.
• Build internal operations, compliance, permissions, limits, and approval tooling.
• Own systems and features end-to-end, from architecture and database design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production operation.
• Work directly with the founders to translate business and product requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.
• Establish engineering standards and technical foundations that can support the future engineering team.
• Take initiative in ambiguous situations and independently identify solutions to complex technical and product problems.

Requirements

• 3–8+ years of professional software engineering experience with excellent backend or full-stack fundamentals.
• Strong hands-on experience building production-grade APIs, backend services, and distributed systems.
• Proven experience working on complex systems where reliability, consistency, and data integrity are critical.
• Strong database architecture, data modeling, and system design skills.
• Experience with asynchronous workflows, including queues, events, retries, idempotency, and failure handling.
• Strong engineering judgment and the ability to balance speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Demonstrated experience owning technical systems or major product areas end-to-end.
• Strong product instincts and an ability to translate ambiguous requirements into working software.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, early-stage or 0→1 environment.
• A natural technical leader who takes initiative without needing a large team or established processes.
• Highly hands-on and genuinely excited to continue writing and shipping production code.

Nice-to-Haves

• Significant hands-on experience within fintech, neobanking, banking infrastructure, payments, or financial technology.
• Experience building core banking, payment, ledger, card, FX, reconciliation, or money-movement infrastructure.
• Previous experience as an individual contributor or technical lead at a leading fintech, neobank, payments company, or financial infrastructure provider.
• Background at companies similar to Revolut, Wise, Monzo, N26, Nubank, Brex, Stripe, Plaid, Airwallex, Nium, Razorpay, Adyen, Checkout.com, PayPal, Column, or Modern Treasury.
• Experience designing financial ledgers, transaction state machines, or reconciliation systems.
• Familiarity with KYC/KYB, compliance workflows, and regulated banking integrations.
• Experience with card issuing or payment-processing infrastructure.
• Experience building multi-currency or FX-heavy financial products.
• Experience integrating multiple banking or financial infrastructure providers into a single platform.
• Previous experience joining an engineering organization early and helping take a product from 0→1.
