Edge Functions Engineer

About the Role: Supabase is the Postgres development platform, built for developers. We are seeking experienced and passionate engineers to evolve our Edge Functions—server-side TypeScript functions distributed globally at the edge. You will work on our open-source, Rust-based Edge Runtime to push the boundaries of how developers build global applications, abstracting away infrastructure complexity.

What You'll Do

• Evolve the Supabase Edge Runtime, managing the main/user runtime split and enforcing per-request memory/CPU limits.
• Implement advanced monitoring, alerting, and OpenTelemetry tracing to drive optimizations in latency and reliability.
• Contribute to upstream projects (Deno) and collaborate with open-source teams to relay user requirements.
• Help manage and improve core features like scheduled functions, background tasks, WebSockets, and custom routing.
• Integrate functions tightly with the rest of the Supabase stack (Auth, Postgres, Storage, Realtime).
• Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure Edge Functions remain healthy and performant at scale.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of backend or systems engineering experience with strong fluency in Rust and TypeScript.
• Experience with V8 Isolates, Deno, and general JavaScript runtime internals.
• Experience operating infrastructure at scale (Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare Workers, Redis, or comparable systems).
• A strong vision for the future of edge compute and data distribution.
• Bonus: Experience building developer-facing CLIs or front-end tooling that sits on top of infrastructure products.
