Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Drafter (4001). Candidate will work remotely, with the ability to come onsite as needed in Idaho Falls, ID.

Navarro Research & Engineering is an award-winning federal contractor dedicated to partnering with clients to advance clean energy and deliver effective solutions for complex challenges in the nuclear and environmental fields. Joining Navarro means being a part of an exceptional team committed to quality and safety while also looking for innovative strategies to create value for the client’s success. Headquartered in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Navarro has active programs in place across the nation for DOE/NNSA, NASA, and the Department of Defense.

The Role

The Drafter plans, lays out, prepares, revises, and checks engineering drawings manually and with computer-aided design (CAD) software across architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines. Working independently from notes, sketches, and general instructions, this position applies advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and sound modeling and drafting practices to produce accurate technical deliverables.

This role will help reduce the existing drawing backlog, mentor less experienced drafters, and serve as a quality checkpoint for drafting deliverables. The position is remote with the ability to report onsite as needed to the Materials and Fuels Complex at Idaho National Laboratory and follows the MFC 4x10 schedule, Monday through Thursday, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare complex new drawings and revise existing drawings in accordance with company procedures and nationally recognized standards, including both 2D line work and 3D modeling.
  • Determine drawing elements, including dimensions, part and component selection, tolerances, and design and process parameters, using input from project and design engineers.
  • Perform required mathematical calculations, including geometric and tolerance stack-up calculations.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to specify parts, assemblies, and installation requirements.
  • Contribute design modification ideas that improve product quality or facilitate construction and fabrication.
  • Provide field documentation and as-built drawing support.
  • Maintain working proficiency in Creo, AutoCAD, and other modeling software used by the organization, and adapt to company-specific CAD standards and product data management and product lifecycle management systems.
  • Report work progress to project and line management as required.
  • Mentor less experienced drafters and check or red-line drafting work to support accurate, standards-compliant deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the BEA Technical Point of Contact.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of drafting techniques and nationally recognized standards, including ANSI, ASME, and MIL-STD requirements.
  • Ability to understand and interpret ANSI/ASME Y14 drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge and application of GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009 or a more recent edition, including the ability to teach or correct GD&T usage in the work of others.
  • Ability to understand architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation drawings.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience using Creo software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with engineers, field personnel, and management.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent drawing packages, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work remotely and report onsite to the Materials and Fuels Complex at Idaho National Laboratory as needed.
  • Ability to work the MFC 4x10 schedule, consisting of four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with American Welding Society symbols and procedures.
  • Experience with CAD standards and product data management or product lifecycle management systems.
  • Experience checking or red-lining the work of other drafters, serving in a lead drafter capacity, or mentoring less experienced drafting personnel.
  • Experience supporting field documentation and as-built drawing development.

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree or vocational certificate in drafting/design, CAD, or engineering technology, and a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, including experience checking or red-lining the work of other drafters or serving in a lead drafter capacity. A minimum of 3 years of experience using Creo software is required.
