Director of Product at Prefect

Role Summary: Product work at Prefect currently lives inside our engineering organization, and engineers carry real product ownership. As we grow, coordination across products becomes more critical, and we are seeking a Director of Product to manage product responsibilities across our portfolio.

You will be our most senior dedicated product leader, responsible for ensuring the portfolio aligns cohesively. This role will report to our Head of Engineering, Jenny.

What You'll Do:

• Own product cohesion across the portfolio—ensuring Dagster, Prefect, and FastMCP fit together logically, identifying overlaps, deliberate exclusions, and defining the future direction of the entire ecosystem.

• Build our product discovery practice by facilitating user conversations, interpreting customer signals, and validating problems. You won’t conduct every conversation yourself but will set the standard for discovery, facilitate cross-team collaboration, and coach engineers to conduct their own user conversations effectively. You’ll be a key partner in framing problems and ensuring customer evidence grounds our product decisions.

• Coach product engineers to elevate their product judgment. Our model requires engineers to carry real product ownership, and you’ll raise the bar across the organization by helping them frame problems, weigh evidence, engage with users, and decide what not to build.

• Design and own the system for measuring the success of what we ship. This includes defining what “it worked” means and establishing practices for post-launch validation. Ensure validation happens honestly and that insights feed into future product development.

Your Qualifications:

• At least 10+ years in product management, with leadership-level experience owning multi-team roadmaps, driving tough prioritization decisions, and shipping products without direct authority over the teams building them.

• Experience operating in startups and engineering-led organizations. Ability to carry product weight through influence without a dedicated PM org or reporting line.

• Strong ability to synthesize across domains. Experience with multi-product portfolios, platform/product tension, or post-acquisition integration is highly valued.

• Deep familiarity with the modern data stack, orchestration, or developer tools. Bonus points for hands-on experience with agentic systems or MCP (Multi-Cloud Platform).

• Proven track record of making other people better at product management.
