The Marguerite Casey Foundation (operating at caseygrants.org) is a private grantmaking organization dedicated to advancing racial and economic justice. Founded as the Casey Family Grants Program and headquartered in Seattle, Washington, the foundation redefines philanthropy by channeling resources toward grassroots organizations led by excluded communities. Unlike traditional funders that often dictate priorities, the foundation empowers these groups to shape their own agendas, fostering long-term systemic change. Its approach centers on ‘Moving Money,’ with a $500 million commitment over a decade—an unprecedented 50% increase in grantmaking—prioritizing equity-driven initiatives. The foundation’s strategy combines direct financial support with strategic partnerships, ensuring grantees have the flexibility and capacity to drive transformative work. This model allows marginalized communities to amplify their voices in economic and political systems, challenging historical inequities. With an annual grant portfolio exceeding $34.8 million and awards ranging from $1,000 to $5 million, the foundation’s impact extends across sectors like housing, immigration, and criminal justice reform.
