Job Description

About Movement Labs

Movement Labs is an incubator and consulting firm that uses technology, data, and experimentation to stop fascism and build progressive power. We help progressives win and defeat MAGA extremists through year-round work grounded in research and real-world testing. Our team partners with leading advocacy groups, grassroots organizers, and electoral campaigns to develop innovative tactics, win elections, and shift power for the long term.

About Contest Every Race (CER)

Contest Every Race is on a mission to make Democrats competitive everywhere, and we do that by building durable political power from the ground up. We are the leading rural down-ballot recruitment and county-level organizing program for the Democratic ecosystem. Our recruitment program runs in 40 states, and our county-level organizing program includes 390 counties across the country. We pride ourselves on providing measurable results. A 2024 experiment demonstrated an increase of over 5,000 votes for Democrats at the top of the ticket thanks to our programs.

The Role

The Digital Strategist uses various channels to run fundraising campaigns for Contest Every Race. Their goal is to move people from being curious about our work to donating, and to move current donors to donating a larger or recurring gift. You’ll help execute CER’s digital fundraising work by planning content and spotting strategic moments for rapid response to mobilize donors, volunteers, and the candidate-curious all with the goal to increase the number of donors to Contest Every Race.

Responsibilities

  • Digital fundraising: Create, implement, and measure the success of the small dollar program digital campaign. This can include but is not limited to emails, ads, landing pages, graphics, and text messages that drive conversions. Be able to run all channels of our digital campaign, report on impact, and make adjustments in order to ensure program health.
  • Create content that moves people from supporters to donors: In partnership with the Communications Team, assist in creating content that converts online likes and comments into small-dollar and recurring donors. Collaborate with team members to experiment with eye-catching campaigns and persuasive content.
  • Use strategic moments to build momentum: Track political storylines, media moments, and cultural trends to identify hooks for proactive storytelling and mobilization for the small dollar program. Be comfortable with occasional truncated turnaround time to jump on trends.
  • Own execution for the digital calendar: With support from your supervisor, maintain an integrated calendar across social media, email, SMS, Substack, and web updates to manage content flow and ensure message discipline.
  • Measure and innovate: Assist in running A/B tests; report insights and iterate.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Being responsible for the production of creative and culturally reactive online engagement (measured in interactions with our posts, contributions coming in through social media, donors signing up to be recurring, new Substack sign ups).
  • Implementing and managing a reliable digital cadence that integrates social, email, SMS, and Substack with program priorities.
  • Supporting creation of CER’s ladders of engagement that convert passive followers into active donors, and small-dollar donors into monthly or big-dollar supporters.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in digital fundraising, preferably for a political cause or campaign
  • 3-5 years of experience creating quality content for social media, email, and digital organizing–internships and volunteer experience count
  • Demonstrated ability to segment lists and make data-driven decisions
  • Experience managing ads and SMS programs
  • Commitment to CER’s mission of making Democrats competitive everywhere. You are values-driven, accountable, collaborative and creative–you like winning as a team
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and capacity to manage complex workflows–juggling multiple deadlines with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
  • Fluent in social media communication and best practices to engage thoughtfully and creatively in trending content
  • Creative, open, and innovative thinker who tests new ideas and learns fast
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
