Role Summary

Our Data Science team plays a key role in shaping these experiences—using data, machine learning, and large language models to power smarter products and intuitive discovery loops. We are looking for a Data Scientist who is excited about applying advanced ML and NLP techniques at scale, partnering closely with product and engineering teams, and helping define the future of knowledge discovery in the AI era. In this high-impact role, you will work on systems that improve how users interact with information across both Stack Overflow and Stack Internal, while mentoring other scientists along the way.

Key Responsibilities

• ML Solutions Engineering: Design, build, and deploy production-grade machine learning solutions, including scalable data pipelines, model training workflows, and LLM-powered experiences.
• LLM Optimization: Enhance the underlying performance, reliability, context accuracy, and latency of large language models deployed within high-concurrency production environments.
• Metrics & Behavioral Analytics: Define and instrument meaningful metrics and analytics layers to track user behavior, feature adoption, and micro-product impacts.
• Data Architecture: Build and maintain large-scale, structured and unstructured datasets to support advanced analytical modeling and predictive application tracks.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and executive business stakeholders to isolate strategic opportunities where data and AI can drive system innovation.
• Experimentation Frameworks: Develop custom analytical tools, experimental models, and A/B testing frameworks to safely accelerate product decision-making.
• Team Mentorship: Serve as a technical thought leader, supporting other data scientists and fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented team engineering culture.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 3+ years of direct professional experience building, optimizing, and deploying machine learning or natural language processing (NLP) models.
• Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining large-scale **Large Language Models (LLMs)** and modern ML systems in live production environments.
• Strong analytical mechanics when evaluating large, distributed, or highly unstructured data structures.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring, code-reviewing, or technical leading other data science professionals with a focus on teammate growth.
• High-agency self-starter who thrives with absolute operational autonomy and enjoys formulating creative algorithmic solutions to complex problems.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills to translate deep technical metrics into clear business impact indicators.
• Strong problem-solving instincts and a native passion for building user-centric products powered by data and AI.
