Cybersecurity Data Engineer

Project Introduction

The Department of Veterans Affairs Cybersecurity Operations and Services Enterprise (COSE) program delivers the enterprise cybersecurity operations, engineering, architecture, risk, and compliance support that safeguards VA systems, data, and mission delivery. The team helps strengthen the cyber resilience of the digital services relied on by Veterans, their families, and the VA workforce.

9th Way Insignia is seeking a Cybersecurity Data Engineer to support this program. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain security-data and telemetry pipelines that support monitoring, detection, investigation, and reporting.
• Define data models, collection patterns, retention needs, quality controls, and integration requirements for security telemetry.
• Integrate logs, alerts, asset data, identity data, vulnerability data, and other telemetry sources into analytics and monitoring platforms.
• Improve data completeness, timeliness, normalization, and correlation to support security operations and risk analysis.
• Partner with security operations, platform engineering, data teams, and system owners to resolve telemetry gaps and improve visibility.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in data engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent relevant technical experience.
• Six or more years of security data engineering, data architecture, observability engineering, security operations, or related experience.
• Experience designing or supporting log management, SIEM, security analytics, data pipelines, APIs, or cloud-based data services.
• Knowledge of security telemetry, data normalization, data quality, access control, and retention practices.
• Strong scripting, data-analysis, architecture documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
