Job Description
About the Role: Photoroom is the leading visual solution for e-commerce, processing over 5 billion images annually. We are looking for a strong Python engineer to take ownership of our public API, which powers how developers integrate Photoroom into their products. This is a high-impact, 3 to 6-month contract role at the intersection of developer experience and applied AI.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and evolve the public API product, the core interface for Photoroom's AI capabilities.
- Ship features for both self-serve developers and large enterprise customers, ensuring reliability and scalability.
- Own the API surface end-to-end, from design decisions (naming, versioning) to implementation and maintainability.
- Abstract complex image models into simple, elegant developer-facing interfaces.
- Iterate quickly based on real usage and collaborate closely with product, ML, backend, and sales teams.
What You Bring
- Strong experience building backend systems in Python, specifically public-facing APIs.
- Comfortable with FastAPI (or similar frameworks), async patterns, concurrency, and production debugging.
- Deep care for reliability, performance, and developer experience.
- Pragmatic, product-minded approach with a focus on impact and speed.
- Bonus: Experience with Docker, image processing libraries (Pillow, pyvips), AI model integration, or Node.js.
Benefits
- Negotiable day rate for a 3 to 6-month contract duration.
- High-impact role within a fast-paced, remote-friendly team of 100+ passionate builders.
- Direct product impact from day one, working alongside a small, senior team.
- Fully remote work flexibility within Europe (Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, London, etc.).
