About the Role
rePurpose Global helps consumer brands meet their Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations for packaging across a fast-growing set of global and North American jurisdictions. The EPR landscape currently spans a complex web of regional programs — each with its own Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), material lists, reporting rules, and deadlines — alongside broader harmonization efforts and shifting federal reporting requirements. Producers count on us to help them navigate this accelerating complexity with confidence, which relies on experts who grasp dense regulatory text and turn it into simple, actionable direction.
As a Compliance & Sustainability Intelligence Manager, you'll work at the complex, fast-moving edge of sustainability regulatory intelligence — a field growing fast across new jurisdictions and requirements, where a forward view is what keeps our producers and our product ahead of a rapidly expanding set of obligations. You'll answer the steady stream of customer and prospect questions that come with a shifting regulatory environment, address what the rules require, produce written market education, and equip our internal teams with authoritative talking points. You'll research these regulations deeply, interpreting primary legislation and program requirements as they develop. You'll also engage directly in the policy forums and industry coalitions where the rules are shaped, developing advocacy positions on what comes next. You'll translate that research into clear direction for producers and into how rePurpose Global approaches each program. It's a visible, builder's role: one of the main voices on rePurpose Global's regulatory expertise, creating structure and clarity in a landscape that's still taking shape.
Key Responsibilities
- Research complex regulation and turn it into intelligence. Monitor EPR programs, PRO plans, material lists, harmonization efforts, and evolving reporting requirements as they take shape, interpreting primary statutory text and distilling what's changing into guidance the team and customers can rely on.
- Engage where the rules are being shaped. Represent rePurpose Global in policy consultations, comment periods, industry coalitions, and working groups, staying close to how regulators, PROs, and producers are interpreting requirements.
- Shape how rePurpose Global interprets and operationalizes regulatory requirements. Translate your research into how we interpret and support each program, partnering with product and engineering to build that thinking into the platform.
- Be a trusted point of contact for complex regulatory questions. Field the hardest EPR questions from customers, prospects, and internal teams with clarity, turning dense or ambiguous rules into direction producers can act on with confidence.
- Produce written regulatory intelligence and education. Write the briefs, assessments, and explainers that keep our teams and customers ahead of regulatory change.
Requirements
- Relevant foundation. Background in EPR, packaging/environmental policy, sustainability, or regulatory affairs, built in industry, at a brand, PRO, or consultancy, or through government advocacy.
- Deep EPR / packaging-policy expertise. Experience in plastics/packaging policy, circular economy, or waste management, with a working command of how these programs operate (governance, financing, PRO structures, and enforcement).
- Regulatory fluency and range. Ability to read and interpret primary statutory and program text across multiple jurisdictions, including programs still taking shape, and translate it into a clear operating approach.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills. Genuine comfort speaking publicly, hosting webinars, and managing live Q&A, plus strong writing for a non-expert audience — you can make a complex rule feel simple without losing what matters.
- Builder's instinct. Comfort creating programs, content, and structure in areas that are new or still taking shape, without waiting for a template to exist.
- Product and systems mindset. You turn regulatory research into structured, repeatable approaches rather than one-off answers, and you're comfortable partnering with product and engineering teams to put that thinking into practice.
- Customer- and stakeholder-facing polish. Confidence engaging producers, prospects, regulators, and industry groups, with the judgment to know how much detail each audience needs.
- Comfort with ambiguity and pace. The ability to stay organized and credible in a fast-moving regulatory environment where guidance is often incomplete and deadlines compress.
- Self-direction. A track record of owning a domain end-to-end with minimal oversight in a remote, cross-functional team.
Nice to Have
These are a plus, not a requirement — we welcome strong candidates who bring the core profile above.
- Adjacent materials expertise. Background in sustainable chemicals, biomaterials, or fibers/textiles.
- Multi-jurisdictional grounding. Familiarity with state or provincial-level EPR rollouts, regional harmonization efforts, PRO landscapes, and emerging federal reporting registries.
- Broader regulatory exposure. Experience with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) or adjacent environmental/packaging regulation.
- Packaging EPR & eco-modulation frameworks. Direct exposure to eco-modulation fee models, design-for-recyclability (D4R) guidelines, or rulemaking comment periods.
- Content and programming. A history of creating content or educational programming for a technical or regulatory audience.
- Additional language skills. An international background, or fluency in one or more additional languages.
- Brand-side or industry engagement. Time in-house at a brand or producer, or participation in advisory committees or coalition working groups.
- Policy and advocacy exposure. Experience engaging in product-stewardship policy — regulatory comment periods, industry coalitions, or government affairs.
