Core Responsibilities

You’ll build the reports Kin sends to regulators, hunt down data breaks, and ensure compliance reporting remains reliable as we scale into new states. SQL required.

About Kin

Kin makes life simpler, more affordable, and better for homeowners—especially in areas where climate risks, rising costs, and outdated systems create challenges. We start with smarter homeowners insurance and expand to everything homeowners need to thrive.

Using data, technology, and thoughtful human support, we’re building products that are clear, fair, and help homeowners feel confident—so they’re never left behind when they need help most.

Founded in 2016, Kin is a remote-first employer with team members across more than 35 states. We serve customers in 14 states (and growing). Our disciplined growth, strong customer satisfaction, and focus on long-term sustainability foster outstanding growth, attract marquee investors, and earn recognition, including:

  • Built In Chicago’s Best Places to Work, Midsize Companies (2021–2026)
  • Forbes’ America’s Best Startup Employers (2026)
  • Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies
  • Forbes’ Fintech 50 (2023–2026)
  • Great Places to Work Certified (2024–2026)

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a Compliance Reporting & Data Analyst to help us build the reporting muscle Kin needs as we scale. As we expand into new states and launch new products, our regulatory, financial, and audit reporting obligations grow in both volume and complexity—and the stakes for accuracy grow with them.

This is a newly created role, added to expand our Compliance Reporting & Data function to keep pace with growth. Reporting to the Compliance Reporting & Data Lead, you’ll partner across Compliance, Finance, Product, and Data Engineering to ensure the numbers we send to regulators, auditors, and finance leaders are accurate, complete, and defensible.

Your Responsibilities

  • Translate regulatory and financial reporting requirements into report logic and data definitions, in partnership with the Compliance Reporting & Data Lead
  • Develop, maintain, and update regulatory and compliance reports for state filings, market conduct exams, audits, and other reporting obligations
  • Validate data used in compliance submissions against agreed checks, document the procedure and results, and escalate exceptions for resolution
  • Own reporting readiness for new products and state launches, including post-launch data validation
  • Investigate reporting discrepancies and data anomalies, isolate root causes, and drive remediation with Data Engineering, Finance, and Product
  • Write and execute validation tests that confirm data pipelines produce reporting-accurate output, and close gaps with Data Engineering before reporting depends on them
  • Build and maintain automated reporting processes, data-quality checks, reconciliations, and alerts, and propose additional checks where recurring exceptions surface
  • Create and maintain clear documentation of report logic, data definitions, controls, validation procedures, and reporting processes to keep Kin audit-ready
  • Produce and reconcile the data feeds Finance relies on for month-end close, and resolve variances identified during reconciliations
  • Research data and assemble supporting documentation for responses to regulators, auditors, and internal stakeholders, and recommend process, control, and automation improvements to the Compliance Reporting & Data Lead

Success in This Role

In your first 6–12 months at Kin, success is about creating impact. You’ll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve operations, and help move Kin’s mission forward.

  • Regulatory filings, market conduct exam responses, and audit requests go out on time, accurately, and backed by documentation examiners can follow without a call
  • New product launches and state expansions have clear compliance reporting requirements, with validated data feeds and documented controls
  • Recurring reporting exceptions have dropped as automated data-quality checks and alerts catch issues before they reach a filing
  • Clear documentation is in place for the reports you are responsible for, including step-by-step instructions

What You’ll Bring

  • 2+ years of experience in data analysis, compliance reporting, insurance regulatory reporting, financial reporting, audit, or a similar analytical role
  • Working proficiency in SQL, including joins, aggregation, and queries that test for completeness, duplicates, and reconciliation breaks
  • Experience translating business and regulatory reporting requirements into structured data needs
  • A track record of investigating data discrepancies, isolating root causes, and driving remediation to completion
  • Precise, detail-oriented working style with well-organized documentation that a colleague can pick up and follow without a walkthrough
  • Ability to manage multiple recurring reporting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy
  • Clear written and verbal communication with both technical partners (Data Engineering) and non-technical partners (Compliance, Finance)

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience working in the P&C insurance industry
  • Familiarity with Looker or a comparable BI tool
  • Familiarity with data pipeline and data-platform tools such as Databricks, Airflow, or AWS tools
  • Experience with JIRA or similar work-management tools
  • Accounting, finance, or audit experience
  • Experience developing automated data-quality checks, reconciliations, or reporting processes

The company completely eliminates the severe systemic friction of legacy property and casualty underwriting—where homeowners face artificially inflated premiums from third-party broker commission overhead, generic one-size-fits-all risk modeling, and complex paper-driven application cycles in climate-volatile regions—by deploying an advanced cloud-native quote-and-bind matrix. Moving far beyond traditional, passive legacy insurance networks or basic online aggregators, Kin natively unifies high-resolution multi-source geospatial data analysis, predictive AI weather and structural modeling, algorithmic customized coverage configuration, and seamless direct digital policy issuance into a single high-availability transactional workspace. Managing two highly successful customer-owned reciprocal exchanges and surpassing a prominent $1 billion unicorn valuation, the platform empowers individual homeowners in high-risk coastal and catastrophe-prone geographies to secure comprehensive, affordable coverage with production-hardened underwriting precision. Under the hood, its sophisticated technical core processes thousands of structural and regional data points per property instantly, replacing standard questionnaire assumptions with absolute empirical telemetry, while driving a robust reinsurance tower and a stellar, industry-beating Net Promoter Score. What sets Kin apart is its uncompromising dedication to replacing ancient actuarial guesswork with data-driven predictive momentum; by bridging the gap between performance-intensive structural data analytics and immediate point-of-sale consumer delivery, the firm remains the definitive, category-defining cornerstone of modern insurtech optimization and digital property protection.
