ClickHouse Operations Engineer

About the Role: PostHog is building the operating system for folks who build products. ClickHouse is the core piece of our infrastructure, relied upon by every product and customer to ingest, store, and query data. We need an engineer to automate, manage, and maintain ClickHouse as we scale towards capturing trillions of events per year and operating one of the world's largest clusters.

What You'll Do

• Build systems and automations for the provisioning and scaling of large ClickHouse clusters handling over 100 PBs of data.
• Automate dynamic provisioning of instances using Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
• Conduct node and instance-level performance optimization, experimenting with the latest hardware from cloud providers.
• Work on bleeding-edge ClickHouse implementations like open format backed tables, rather than just routine maintenance.
• Contribute to building a query optimizer for ClickHouse and other query performance tooling.

What You Bring

• Deep experience with the internals of ClickHouse or other OLAP Databases (not just as a high-level user).
• Strong hands-on experience in automating dynamic provisioning using Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
• Experience operating high-scale, complex data storage solutions.
• Proficiency with our tech stack: Python, Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, AWS, and Zookeeper (or alternatives).
• A readiness to tackle scale and complexity and do the best work of your career.
