Want to know if you're a match for this job?
VirtueStaff is seeking a highly meticulous, technically skilled AutoCAD Specialist to join our team. In this dual-focus role, you will bridge the gap between field-captured data and construction-ready drawing sets for both commercial foodservice/kitchen spaces and detailed residential interiors.
On the commercial side, you will take 3D Matterport scan files (MatterPaks), import the point clouds into AutoCAD via Autodesk ReCap, and draft clean 2D existing-conditions plans populated with commercial kitchen equipment using the Kitchen CAD Library (KCL). On the residential side, you will develop comprehensive construction documentation sets, custom millwork elevations, and high-end 3D models/renderings. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of actual construction and spatial details—not just how things look on paper, but how they are actually built.
Responsibilities
- Point Cloud Processing: Import, attach, and manage MatterPak point cloud data as external references in AutoCAD
- Utilize slice planes (horizontal and vertical clipping) to isolate data and accurately trace walls, door openings/swings, window sills, soffits, floor drains, and structural columns
- KCL Equipment Integration: Source and populate existing commercial kitchen equipment blocks from the Kitchen CAD Library (KCL) into floor plans
- Quality & File Standards: Verify traced dimensions against point cloud data for absolute accuracy and organize geometry on correct CAD layers using established naming conventions
- Use AutoCAD to develop clear, construction-ready drawing sets, including electrical, lighting, plumbing, tile layout, cabinetry, and finish schedules based on field measurements and sketches
- Draft intricate custom cabinetry and millwork elevations with precise dimensional accuracy
- Build detailed 3D spatial models and create realistic renderings using SketchUp to communicate design intent
- Review drawings critically to identify clearance issues, dimension conflicts, or constructability errors before plans go to the field
Requirements
- Advanced, expert-level proficiency in current versions of AutoCAD for 2D drafting, layer organization, and xRef management
- Hands-on experience importing and manipulating point cloud data using Autodesk ReCap Pro (or equivalent point cloud viewers) and basic familiarity with Matterport scan outputs
- 3D & Visualization: Strong SketchUp 3D modeling and photorealistic rendering capabilities
- Familiarity with KCL (Kitchen CAD Library) is a major differentiator (candidate must demonstrate ability to learn quickly if unfamiliar)
- Cloud Operations: Comfort working within shared cloud environments (Google Drive)
- Professional background in Architectural Drafting, Interior Design, Foodservice/Restaurant Design, or Residential Construction Documentation
- Deep understanding of how residential interiors and commercial kitchens are physically constructed—ability to catch clearance, dimension, or detail errors proactively
- Meticulous approach to dimensional accuracy, point cloud interpretation (distinguishing true geometry from point noise), and layer discipline
