The Associate is a developing mid-level consultant responsible for owning discipline-specific deliverables, coordinating with clients and design partners, owning and delivering small projects, and supporting the delivery of larger projects under the mentorship of a more senior engineer.

In this position, you shift from primarily production-focused work to applying judgment, managing defined scope, and ensuring your work aligns with TEECOM’s standards and documentation practices.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll work with your Mentor, senior engineers, and Project Leads to develop accurate, coordinated designs while building independence through strong documentation habits and consistent follow-through. You’ll design systems, prepare drawings, specifications, and calculations, and produce coordinated deliverables—either independently or with the production team.

External & Internal Contributions

Externally: You’ll begin developing client relationships—building trust through clear communication, reliable follow-through, and thoughtful coordination. You’ll participate in project meetings, programming sessions, coordination discussions, and construction support, helping maintain alignment with clients, contractors, manufacturers, and design partners.

Internally: You’ll contribute discipline scope input for pursuits, prepare early fee assumptions, and assist with proposal coordination. You’ll strengthen team practices by improving documentation, developing tools, and sharing lessons learned, while progressing through training journeys and structured mentorship.

Discipline Ownership, Client Coordination, and Project Leadership

As an Associate, your impact comes from owning discipline-specific work, leading small projects, contributing to larger projects, and building confidence with both internal teams and clients. You contribute in three key ways:

Lead and Support Project Execution With Growing Judgment
  • Take ownership of discipline-specific outputs, ensuring they are accurate, coordinated, and aligned with expectations.
  • Apply developing engineering judgment to resolve issues, validate assumptions, and make informed decisions with increasing independence.
  • Grow through mentorship—integrate feedback and build capability to take on larger scopes and more complex responsibilities.
Build Team Collaboration and Client Confidence
  • Show up prepared, responsive, and reliable in meetings and coordination discussions to strengthen client trust.
  • Maintain alignment across disciplines by communicating clearly, closing loops proactively, and ensuring decisions and next steps are understood.
  • Enhance team performance by sharing insights, asking questions, and helping Designers develop stronger documentation and modeling habits.
Improve the TEECOM System
  • Maintain clear, organized documentation that teams can rely on.
  • Identify coordination or workflow gaps and offer practical suggestions that reduce ambiguity and rework.
  • Document client nuances, refine notes, and share lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.

What Success in this Position Looks Like

  • Deliver accurate, well-coordinated discipline designs, drawings, specifications, and calculations with consistent follow-through.
  • Complete discipline tasks for projects independently—confirming assumptions, validating decisions, and asking clarifying questions when needed.
  • Support Project Leads and senior engineers by preparing coordinated layouts, documentation, research, product evaluations, and early design narratives.
  • Manage workload effectively by prioritizing tasks, communicating risks early, and meeting deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Apply TEECOM standards and documentation practices reliably and contribute improvements by sharing observations, raising questions, or offering documented feedback.
  • Participate actively in client meetings and coordination sessions, producing clear notes that maintain alignment and capture decisions accurately.
  • Collaborate with engineers and design partners to identify coordination issues, document impacts, and support resolution across disciplines.
  • Maintain organized, up-to-date documentation in GitHub, Design Decision Logs, Asana, and Callback One.
  • Complete daily time and expense entries accurately and uphold disciplined habits that support predictable project delivery.
  • Model TEECOM’s Core Values—Care, Trust, and Value—through clear communication, accountability, and dependable project execution.

Responsibilities and Expectations

These responsibilities and expectations represent what is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.

Annual and Quarterly
  • Participate in performance assessments and demonstrate measurable growth in technical capability, coordination awareness, and documentation impact.
  • Deepen discipline expertise through training journeys while supporting collaboration with Designers and project teams.
  • Improve TEECOM’s system through documentation updates, workflow improvements, and targeted Pull Requests.
  • Share feedback on standards, tools, and workflows to support continuous improvement.
  • Support design reviews by preparing coordinated layouts, calculations, and documentation.
Monthly and Biweekly
  • Collaborate with your Mentor, Project Leads, and senior engineers to review progress, confirm priorities, and strengthen decision-making.
  • Maintain organized, accurate documentation that reflects design intent, coordination decisions, and evolving project requirements.
  • Support coordination and delivery planning by maintaining visibility into assigned tasks and upcoming milestones.
  • Maintain alignment with discipline standards, workflows, and project expectations through participation in discipline meetings and reviews.
  • Contribute to documentation updates, workflow improvements, and shared standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely time and expense entries.
Weekly and Daily
  • Deliver coordinated discipline designs including layouts, documentation, calculations, and technical inputs.
  • Communicate proactively with project teams to identify risks, clarify scope, and maintain cross-discipline alignment.
  • Maintain accurate task visibility and project documentation including the Design Decision Log (DDL), Asana, and related tools.
  • Participate in project and coordination meetings, documenting decisions and reinforcing clarity around next steps.
  • Execute design and documentation tasks with increasing independence while maintaining alignment with project priorities.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve documentation or coordination issues.
  • Join daily huddles to maintain alignment on priorities, risks, and coordination needs.
As Needed
  • Support programming sessions, site walks, surveys, and construction-phase coordination.
  • Contribute to pursuits by preparing discipline inputs, assumptions, and coordination materials.
  • Provide production support during high-volume periods or complex project phases.

Supervisory / Mentorship / Training Responsibilities

  • Supervisory: None. Associates focus on delivering discipline-specific work, supporting coordination, and maintaining clear documentation.
  • Mentorship: Provide informal support to Designers and early-career team members by clarifying markups, answering questions, and reinforcing documentation expectations.

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in the AEC industry with strong proficiency in Revit, coordinated modeling, and construction documentation across multiple projects.
  • Preferred: Experience delivering technology system designs (Telecom/ICT, Structured Cabling, Low Voltage disciplines) and supporting engineering tasks such as calculations, device layouts, and specification development.
  • Experience leading BIM coordination efforts, including clash detection, model review, and cross-discipline resolution.
  • Ability to maintain model health at a senior production level, including workset management, view template application, warning resolution, and model cleanup.
  • Ability to manage and maintain coordinated models, produce accurate drawings with minimal oversight, and resolve production issues independently.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage workloads across several projects, lead coordination efforts, and support engineers and project leads.
  • Solid technical understanding of technology systems and engineering principles; ability to perform calculations, conduct product research, and contribute to design development with limited guidance.
