We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented HVAC Application Engineer focused on pre-sale activities to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will work closely with the sales team, engineers, and clients to provide technical expertise in the design, selection, and estimation of HVAC systems and equipment specific to a Key Ambient Partner. Your contributions will be critical to delivering accurate and timely proposals, system solutions, and scopes of work, helping to ensure project success from the outset.

Responsibilities:

Pre-Sales Support & Technical Consultation

  • Collaborate with the sales team to understand customer requirements, project scope, and technical specifications.
  • Provide expert guidance on HVAC system designs, equipment selections, and technical feasibility during the initial stages of a project.
  • Offer recommendations for product selection, considering cost, energy efficiency, and performance optimization.
  • Prepare and present technical presentations to clients and internal teams when required

Estimating & Proposal Development

  • Perform detailed estimation of HVAC system costs, including equipment and other third-party line-item costs.
  • Develop accurate and competitive cost proposals, ensuring alignment with project budgets.
  • Assess project risks, constraints, and timelines to prepare realistic and actionable proposals.

HVAC System Selection & Design

  • Evaluate customer needs and recommend appropriate HVAC systems, including small tonnage chillers, large tonnage chillers, Solution air handling units and Custom air handling units.
  • Work with design tools and software to assist in sizing, selecting, and configuring HVAC equipment according to project specifications and standards.
  • Prepare scope of work documents

Proposal Documentation

Prepare detailed technical proposals and specifications based on client needs and project requirements.

  • Review technical documentation, including drawings and specifications for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure proposals and quotes are well-documented, clearly presented, and aligned with client expectations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineering, Project Management, Operations, and Sales to ensure a seamless transition from proposal through project execution.
  • Collaborate with product development and technical teams to stay current on HVAC technologies, product offerings, and industry best practices.

Customer Support

  • Serve as a technical resource for customers by responding to inquiries, providing application guidance, and recommending solutions throughout the sales process.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through responsive communication and technical expertise.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in HVAC engineering, with a focus on pre-sale activities such as estimating, system selection, and preparation of technical scopes.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, components, and applications, including heating, cooling, ventilation, and air conditioning.
  • Excellent understanding of HVAC industry standards, energy codes, and building regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification in HVAC (e.g., ASHRAE, AEE, or similar).
  • Previous experience in HVAC system design, estimating, or sales support roles.
  • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Experience with Johnson Controls/York Products and Services
  • Proficient in using HVAC software tools and system design programs (e.g., Solution Navigator, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, etc.).
