About Metalab & Zero: Metalab is a world-renowned digital product design and engineering agency that has shaped some of the most iconic software interfaces on the web. Zero is an elite, high-velocity R&D team embedded inside Metalab, dedicated to exploring new tools, workflows, and experimental ways of building technology. We operate as an internal incubation studio—testing ideas fast, validating working artifacts, and feeding design methodology discoveries back to the broader global organization.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly adaptable, forward-thinking AI Native Product Designer to drive end-to-end user experiences from abstract intent down to functional, shipped code. This is an elite client-facing role within the Zero squad, tailored for a designer who is energized by how product design is changing in real time. Rather than relying on traditional developer hand-offs, you will act as the bridge by utilizing advanced AI generation toolsets to turn your interface design architectures into tangible, working software configurations that the client team can actually use.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Product Craft: Structure complex user flows, establish hierarchy rules, and design highly responsive product interactions across web, mobile, and emerging AI-native interfaces.
- AI-Assisted Prototyping: Use generative AI development platforms and multi-agent systems as a core layer of your design process to independently ship functional code, MVPs, and prototypes.
- Client Account Advisory: Present design blueprints and working applications clearly to external clients and internal leadership, protecting design quality while matching startup velocities.
- R&D Tool Validation: Battle-test experimental layout engines and automation tools inside live client engagements, feeding honest usability data back to internal engineering teams.
- Technical Cross-Collaboration: Partner tightly alongside core engineering leads on larger system architectures, ensuring seamless visual and programmatic integration.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven professional product design experience operating within an elite digital product agency, creative studio, or specialized tech consultancy setup.
- Profound UI/UX fundamentals, highlighting system-level design thinking, sharp product intuition, and the capacity to map out interactions under rigid client constraints.
- Demonstrated history of building with AI tools in your personal or hobby time, with a track record of using platforms like Cursor, v0, Lovable, or Claude to produce working software.
- Functional operational understanding of front-end development mechanics, including component hierarchies, CSS layouts, responsive design states, and basic state management.
- A distinct bias toward making ideas tangible quickly, combined with the professional judgment to know when high-fidelity polish actually matters over speed.
- Excellent communication and visual presentation mechanics, with the capacity to hold a clear point of view on which AI tools are functioning efficiently.
- Location Context: 100% remote-first workspace infrastructure flexibility open specifically to qualified product designers based within the Americas time zones.
What We Offer
- The exceptional professional runway to shape the future of AI-native UI/UX design methodologies inside a legendary product agency.
- Highly competitive salary package calibrated accurately against your product engineering depth and portfolio review.
- A remote, highly trusted work environment built around extreme individual autonomy and continuous tech innovation.
- Direct involvement in defining how autonomous AI and design systems interact as a single, unified team layer.
