About International Water Management Institute

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI, operating under iwmi.org) is an international non-profit research-for-development organization dedicated to delivering science-based water management solutions for agriculture, ecosystems, climate resilience, and sustainable development. Founded in 1984 (originally as the International Irrigation Management Institute, IIMI), IWMI is a member center of CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food- and water-secure future. IWMI works with governments, policymakers, farmers, and civil society across Africa and Asia to optimize water-use efficiency, build institutional water governance, and manage transboundary river basins. Headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, IWMI operates regional offices in 15 countries and conducts scientific field research across more than 50 nations.
