Job Description

Elegant Themes is a giant in the WordPress space, serving over 1 million users. They are the team behind Divi, a flagship theme and visual page builder.

They are looking for a developer who isn't just a "WordPress User" but a Core-Level Developer. You will be building the actual software that other agencies and freelancers use. While WordPress is PHP-based, their flagship product relies heavily on a front-end interface built with React and Flux.

ā€‹Key Responsibilities

  • ā€‹Product Development: Build and maintain high-quality WordPress themes and plugins (specifically Divi).
  • ā€‹React Engineering: Spend a significant amount of time developing with JavaScript (ES6) and React to power the visual builder interface.
  • ā€‹Core Architecture: Apply deep understanding of WordPress Core functions and security best practices.
  • ā€‹Innovation: Find elegant solutions to complex problems ("Code is Poetry") and stay up-to-date with open-source trends.
  • ā€‹Agile Collaboration: Work with a small, distributed team using GitHub and Slack.

ā€‹Requirements

  • ā€‹WP Mastery: Complete understanding of WordPress core software, functions, and security best practices at the code level.
  • ā€‹Frontend Stack: Strong proficiency in React, Flux, JavaScript (ES6), jQuery, HTML, and CSS/SASS.
  • ā€‹Backend: Strong PHP and MySQL skills.
  • ā€‹Experience: Proven history of building custom themes/plugins (Bonus points if you have contributed to WP Core).
  • ā€‹Self-Motivation: Ability to thrive in a remote environment without micromanagement.

ā€‹Nice to Have

  • ā€‹Gutenberg: Experience with Gutenberg block development (This is crucial as WP evolves).
  • ā€‹Modern JS: Experience with TypeScript and Redux.
  • ā€‹Testing: Experience with Unit Testing frameworks like Jest, PHPUnit, or WPUnit.

ā€‹Application Details

  • ā€‹The "Unique" Test: The application asks: "In 150 characters or fewer, tell us what makes you unique." Do not ignore this. It is a creativity test.
