Staff Software Engineer, Backend - Platform (Core Automation)

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Core Automation team. This team envisions a future where Agentic AI leads to seamless customer experiences. It is "Day 1" for this team. You will not just be automating manual processes; you will be reimagining systems to work in a fully AI-driven world, specifically targeting Customer Support and Compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Agentic AI Design: Design and implement Agentic AI systems that power customer support and compliance processes.
• Orchestration & Safety: Implement orchestration, guardrails, and measurement techniques to ensure AI Agents are grounded, relevant, and free of hallucinations.
• System Architecture: Architect and develop distributed systems and foundational APIs specifically for use by LLMs.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical structure, define strategic roadmaps, and mentor other team members on design techniques.
• High-Quality Code: Write robust, well-tested code to meet the rigorous needs of a financial platform.

Requirements

• Experience: 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Ambiguity: Proven experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
• Mission Aligned: Passionate about building an open financial system and the power of crypto/blockchain.

Nice to Have (The Differentiators)

• LLM Production: Experience getting LLM-based applications to production. Specifically, experience measuring and improving grounding and reducing hallucinations.
• Domain Knowledge: Experience in Customer Support Compliance or Financial Crimes domains.

• Pay: Target annual base salary: $218,025 - $256,500 USD + Bonus + Equity + Benefits.
• Remote Work: Remote-first, but not remote-only. In-person participation at offsites is required multiple times a year.
