About the Role
At Samsara, driver safety is central to fleet management. The Safety Applications team develops AI-powered coaching products across web, mobile, and API surfaces, in collaboration with ML and AI engineering teams. Our products aim to promote safer and more efficient driving by providing targeted, actionable feedback to help drivers and managers address risky behaviors.
As a Software Engineer II, you will collaborate with Product and Design to enhance these coaching products, refine workflows based on customer feedback, and deliver scalable, AI-driven solutions for global operations.

Responsibilities
- Write high-quality, maintainable code and handle moderately complex tasks with a strong understanding of system architecture.
- Effectively break down problems, make sound technical decisions, and escalate ambiguity as needed.
- Own features from implementation to release, ensuring reliable delivery and quality.
- Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with engineers, PMs, and designers.
- Participate in code reviews, uphold team standards, and contribute to team culture.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement, apply feedback, and increase autonomy.
- Deliver consistent impact on team goals, contribute to small-medium projects, and enable others through documentation.
- Integrate LLMs into safety workflows, design and run evaluations, and build feedback loops for continuous improvement of insights.
- Champion and embed Samsara’s cultural principles as the company scales.
Minimum Requirements
- 2-4 years of relevant industry experience in software development.
- Strong programming fundamentals in Java, Python, or Golang.
- Knowledge of designing, architecting, developing, and monitoring full-stack applications at scale.
- Familiarity with integrating LLMs into products, running evaluations, and creating feedback loops.
- Experience using data to investigate and resolve issues.
- Ability to estimate, communicate, and deliver on project milestones.
- A growth mindset and enthusiasm for building new skills.
Ideal Candidate
- Background in web application development using modern frameworks like React and TypeScript.
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and experience managing cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
