Software Engineer (Backend - Clojure)

We are looking for exceptional software engineers to join our fully distributed global team (50% outside the US) to build tools that make users' lives easy.

Key Responsibilities

• Feature Development: Ship major features end-to-end across the Clojure and JavaScript/TypeScript codebase.
• Backend Engineering: Deal with tricky backend issues, database integrations, and potentially machine learning or compiler theory challenges.
• Product Sense: Apply strong product sensibilities to build features that deeply care about the end-user experience.
• Technical Judgment: Make good technical judgments and back them up articulately within an asynchronous work environment.

Requirements

• Language Skills: Experience in Clojure (or a strong desire to learn it).
• Complexity: A track record of shipping products of significant complexity.
• CS Fundamentals: Solid Computer Science background (acquired through a CS program or shipping production software).
• Full Stack Awareness: While backend-focused, experience in JavaScript / TypeScript is valuable as the frontend is built in JS/TS.

Nice to Have

• Ecosystem: Experience with JDBC, database integrations, and the Java ecosystem (JVM tuning).
• Open Source: A history of open source contributions.
• Advanced Tech: Familiarity with machine learning, compiler theory, or big data infrastructure.
