Software Engineer 6 - Evidence Engineering

About the Role: At Netflix, every decision a member makes is shaped by the assets we surface: artwork, trailers, synopses, and metadata. The Evidence Engineering team builds and operates the systems that power this experience at scale. We are looking for a Staff-level (L6) Software Engineer to take on a technical leadership role within our Evidence organization. This is a backend-focused, high-impact role at the intersection of large-scale distributed systems and real-time personalization.

What You'll Do

• Lead the technical vision for core Evidence capabilities, setting the technical direction and driving longer-term strategy for asset delivery and personalization infrastructure.
• Partner closely with operations, ML scientists, and merchandising teams to design and build state-of-the-art self-service tools.
• Collaborate with Personalization, Content Engineering, Product, and Platform Infrastructure to deliver well-integrated solutions.
• Identify and address gaps in reliability, observability, and scalability before they become incidents.
• Navigate open-ended technical problems with limited precedent, bringing structure and clarity to ambiguous situations.
• Mentor and raise the technical bar for engineers on the team through code reviews and design discussions.

What You Bring

• Extensive experience building and operating large-scale, low-latency distributed systems on horizontal platforms.
• Deep knowledge of real-time asset delivery or content serving systems, with a track record of improving performance and cost efficiency.
• Strong judgment in system design with the ability to identify trade-offs between consistency, availability, and latency.
• Experience working at the boundary between backend infrastructure and ML or personalization systems.
• Proven ability to set technical direction, drive multi-quarter roadmaps, and deliver high-impact projects.
• Bonus: Working knowledge of GenAI techniques applied to engineering workflows.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $499,000 - $900,000 USD/year (compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; you choose how much in salary vs. stock options).
