Social News Editor

About the Role: SmartNews is looking for a U.S. West Coast-based Social News Editor to provide remote editorial services. You will work independently to curate content through push notifications and social media, establishing our social presence with a distinct creative voice and strong news judgment.

What You'll Do

• Curate content through push notifications and social media channels (TikTok, Instagram, Threads, and X).
• Design and execute a social growth strategy to establish SmartNews's social presence.
• Support SmartNews's evening and weekend news cycles in the U.S.
• Display high editorial standards, balancing both accuracy and speed as breaking events unfold.

What You Bring

• 3+ years of experience in breaking news and journalism.
• Mastery of TikTok, Instagram, Threads, and X with a strong POV on internet culture and platforms.
• Expert knowledge of AP Style and real-time digital news production.
• Ability to use professional judgment and discretion to identify news stories and trends independently.
