Senior Product Manager
Job Description
About Us
Here at BusRight, we say that Product is our heart. Our Product Team is home to one of our two cofounders (our CPO), a founding team member, and a growing team of Product Managers. Now, we're continuing to grow this tight-knit, high-impact team with another critical role that will help shape the security, interoperability, and data foundations of our platform.
We are seeking a dedicated, self-driven, transformative individual to help us bring modern technology to users of all levels of sophistication in education transportation through our innovative suite of mobile and web apps. As a Senior Product Manager, you'll play one of the most critical roles in our company. You'll be the glue between the voice of the customer and our engineering team, ensuring that every step we take aligns with our mission and values.
Role Overview
As a Senior Product Manager, you will be the connective tissue of the company, collaborating with all functional areas including sales, engineering, product, design, and strategy.
At BusRight, we believe our product speaks for itself and is the clearest, most cogent way to market the company. The Product Manager is a key enabler in telling the story of our product.
Ensure that every decision in the company is aligned to the implications of the data about the product; track product engagement and performance metrics and keep everyone excited in the story it tells.
Articulate and implement customer engagement opportunities like focus groups, Design Partner conversations, and Early Access programs.
Serve as a product-focused mentor, when needed, for the Engineering team including periodically coding proofs of concept for new ideas, and designing use cases for testing.
Domain Focus: Platform
We're looking for a Product Manager to take ownership of the foundational platform capabilities that underpin every layer of BusRight's multi-product suite and will guide our growth into higher-scale partners.
In this role, you'll be the internal expert and external advocate for the systems that make BusRight trusted, interoperable, and insightful for districts of all sizes. You'll work closely with Engineering, Security, and Customer Success to ensure our platform is secure, compliant, and deeply connected to the broader K-12 ecosystem.
Below are a few examples of the areas you will own and shape in your first year alone:
- Users & Permissions: Own BusRight's identity and access model end-to-end. You'll define how roles, permissions, and access controls are structured across our multi-product suite — ensuring the right people have the right access while keeping the experience intuitive for administrators and end users alike. As our customer base grows in complexity, you'll build the framework that scales with it.
- SIS Integrations: Lead the strategy and execution of BusRight's Student Information System (SIS) integration layer. You'll own the product experience for connecting BusRight to district systems via API and SFTP-based data exchange, ensuring reliable, accurate, and timely data sync. You'll work closely with customers and implementation partners to understand integration requirements and translate them into scalable, repeatable solutions.
- Reporting & Analytics: Define and drive BusRight's reporting product. You'll identify the metrics and data points that matter most to our users — from district administrators to transportation directors — and work with Engineering and Design to build reporting experiences that are actionable, accessible, and trustworthy. You'll balance self-serve flexibility with opinionated defaults to serve users across varying levels of data sophistication.
Your Day-To-Day
- Own your areas of the product: define their roadmap collaboratively with Product team peers and serve as the company-wide institutional knowledge on the "why" as it relates to product features and decisions.
- Lead and participate in agile ceremonies, fostering clear communication, decision-making, and collaboration within our self-organizing engineering and design teams.
- Build prototypes and work directly with development partners to measure and scale their success.
- Oversee successful product launches, ensuring timelines, quality, and stakeholder alignment, while tracking post-launch performance, gathering user feedback, and driving iterative improvements to meet company goals.
- Obsess over the entire product experience and develop a deep understanding of how each user receives value from BusRight.
- Meet with customers and work closely with our Customer Success team to identify collaboration opportunities for research and testing. Occasionally travel to customer sites across the country to gather insights, build relationships, and ensure our product meets their needs.
- Provide our GTM team with hand-off materials for new features and occasionally join prospect calls for research and roadmap alignment — particularly where compliance and integration capabilities are key to closing deals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, Business, or a related field — or equivalent work experience
- 5-8 years of experience in product management or a related role, preferably in a startup or fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated understanding of identity and access management (IAM) concepts, role-based access control (RBAC), and permission modeling
- Familiarity with SOC 2 Trust Service Criteria and experience working within or alongside a compliance program
- Hands-on experience with data integration patterns, including REST APIs and SFTP-based file exchange; experience with K-12 SIS platforms (e.g., PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Skyward) is a strong plus
- Experience defining and shipping reporting or data visualization features for non-technical end users
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus across diverse stakeholders
