Job Description

About the Role: mx51 is a payments-as-a-service solution for banks, non-bank acquirers, and other merchant service providers. We are looking for a Senior Merchant Risk Analyst to identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks associated with merchant accounts. This role sits at the intersection of underwriting, fraud prevention, compliance, and business enablement.

What You'll Do

  • Review and evaluate new merchant applications for risk exposure, including credit risk and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct due diligence and monitor existing merchant portfolios for unusual transaction patterns and fraud.
  • Analyze transaction data to detect illegal activities, money laundering indicators, or violations.
  • Investigate and resolve chargeback disputes, fraud claims, and prepare risk reports for senior management.
  • Stay current on regulation changes, scheme rules (Visa, Mastercard), and submit SMRs with relevant regulators.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience within the acquiring industry with strong knowledge of merchant risk, fraud operations, payments, or financial crime.
  • Strong understanding of AUSTRAC, Scheme Regulation, and PCI-DSS frameworks.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, or similar) with a strong analytical and fraud investigative mindset.
  • Bonus: Exposure to high-risk merchant verticals (e.g., gaming, travel, CBD).
