Principal Mobile Engineer (React Native & Architecture)

Engine is transforming business travel by bringing together corporate travel, a powerful charge card, and modern spend management into one platform. We are looking for a Principal Mobile Engineer to serve as the technical north star for our mobile platform. In this role, you will shape the long-term architectural vision, defining how we build a unified, high-performance mobile experience using React Native.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Direction: Own the long-term architectural vision for Engine’s mobile applications, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
• High-Impact Development: Act as a principal hands-on contributor (coding required) on complex initiatives while setting standards for engineering excellence.
• Architecture: Define frameworks and architectural patterns that enable teams to move faster while maintaining a high bar.
• Native Integration: Work deep into Native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) when needed to optimize performance and build native modules.
• Mentorship: Coach and mentor Staff and Senior Engineers, shaping technical culture and growing future leaders.

Requirements

• Experience: 10+ years of building and scaling mobile applications, including ownership of large, production-grade mobile platforms.
• Core Tech: Deep expertise in React Native combined with strong architectural skills.
• Native Depth: Experience with native iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and/or Android (Kotlin/Jetpack), specifically for performance tuning and native module development.
• Leadership: A track record of driving technical direction through influence rather than authority across multiple teams.
• Systems Mindset: Strong architectural judgment and a bias toward durable, reusable solutions.
