Position Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical, systems-minded Lead SQL Engineer to join our core centralized Data Science & Analytics collective as our first U.S.-based data practice lead in a full-time remote capacity. In this high-leverage and high-visibility strategic seat, you will step up to claim individual operational and technical accountability for directing the team, service architecture, and execution of custom analytics assets—including tailored dashboards, performant data views, and bespoke data products. Shifting completely away from an isolated, behind-the-scenes ticketing function, you will lead the evolution of this engineering unit into a proactive, customer-facing delivery organization that partners directly with top-tier growth, marketing, and data stakeholders. This position requires an enterprise data architecture veteran with 6+ years of heavy production SQL background who models multi-platform e-commerce tables fluidly, manages distributed engineering cells smoothly, and tunes complex BigQuery or ClickHouse databases confidently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Distributed SQL Engineering Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and structurally develop a distributed team of high-performing SQL engineers and data analysts across the United States and Eastern Europe, establishing technical code guidelines and raising execution bars.
  • End-to-End Service Model Architecture: Formulate, document, and execute the complete operational lifecycle for custom analytical requests, managing intake channels, complex project scoping, Jira tracking execution, rigorous QA loops, and strict SLA compliance.
  • Customer-Facing Technical Advocacy: Serve as an authoritative technical liaison, jumping onto strategic scoping calls with senior marketing directors and enterprise growth leaders to translate ambiguous business questions into explicit, reliable technical scope.
  • Advanced Relational Database Optimization: Write, monitor, and optimize highly performant query blocks, views, and data structures natively utilizing SQL parameters (specifically optimizing within BigQuery and ClickHouse environments).
  • Omnichannel Data Stack Synthesis: Construct complex schema mappings and multi-tiered data joins required to interconnect disparate channels inside the modern e-commerce stack, explicitly binding data across Shopify, Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, and Klaviyo natively leveraging Data Scientist analytics foundations.
  • Taxonomy and Product Insight Curation: Build and maintain a thoughtful taxonomy of incoming customer data requests sorted by product surface, complexity, and specific merchant use cases to improve capacity planning and surface downstream product insights.
  • Cross-Functional Strategic Integration: Partner tightly with Customer Success, Solutions Architecture, core Product, and engineering cells to support account renewals, multi-tenant expansions, complex technical escalations, and custom platform migrations.
  • AI-Enabled Workflow Engineering: Collaborate alongside internal product engineers on foundational data platform updates, including corporate template libraries, Moby-related SQL grounding work, and next-generation AI-assisted analytics workflows.
  • Value Realization Voice: Serve as the core data representative in strategic product governance sessions regarding Advanced Intelligence credits, verifying custom analytics deliver massive client retention value.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 6+ years of verified professional history running advanced production-grade SQL engineering, enterprise business intelligence development, large-scale e-commerce analytics architecture, multi-channel attribution modeling, or tech-sector data consulting.
  • Deep, authoritative technical command of relational database design, dataset normalization, indexing strategies, analytical window functions, query execution planning, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Expert-tier capability writing production queries, manipulating large datasets, and structuring analytics views natively utilizing SQL programming parameters.
  • Practical operational familiarity auditing user metrics, optimizing multi-platform transaction funnels, and managing data modeling pipelines natively using Data Scientist query layers (specifically BigQuery and ClickHouse platforms).
  • Documented Management Footprint: 2+ years of direct professional history managing, mentoring, and scaling technical delivery teams (data engineers, BI analysts, or customer-facing technical support squads).
  • Proven track record managing or significantly improving a high-volume request-driven delivery process natively utilizing advanced workflow tracking tools (specifically Jira, HubSpot, and Slack).
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and document communication mechanics in business-fluent English, enabling absolute confidence when explaining intricate database logic or data-join constraints clearly before senior enterprise executives.
  • Location Context: Position open exclusively to qualified technical executives based permanently and resident within the **United States** to operate under a 100% remote layout.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

  • Prior commercial database engineering history operating explicitly within a hyper-scale e-commerce software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, digital media attribution startup, or heavy direct-to-consumer data hub.
  • Hands-on functional scripting familiarity using Python for analytics data formatting or automated pipeline scaffolding.
  • Direct operational exposure deploying or tweaking LLM-assisted analytics workflows and prompt grounding structures.
  • An outcome-driven personal philosophy rooted in absolute customer obsession, a drive to move very quickly, and a passion for acting like a “Mensch” by treating colleagues and clients with ultimate honor, integrity, and empathy.

What We Offer

  • Balanced United States Salaried Structure: An attractive full-time annual base salary range structured transparently between $145,000 – $175,000 USD per year, calibrated precisely to evaluate your technical SQL craftsmanship, management history, and e-commerce authority.
  • The exceptional professional canvas to directly direct, shape, and code-engineer the custom data dashboards and BigQuery models power-routing data insights for over 60,000 scaling e-commerce brands.
  • Profound work-from-home remote parameters offering an elite distributed workplace model, complete scheduling trust, and zero physical geographic office commuting friction across America.
  • Access to elite professional development opportunities, working alongside veteran software engineers and AI product leaders inside a growth-stage market leader.
  • Immediate baseline access to a highly collaborative corporate ecosystem built on candor, creative bold paths, and deep respect for our customer community.
