Head of Engineering (FinTech)

About the Role: Deel is building the global financial infrastructure to power payroll, payments, treasury, compliance, and accounting at scale. As we move toward IPO readiness, we are doubling down on building regulated, scalable, and auditable financial systems. We are looking for a Head of Engineering (Fintech Platform) to lead the engineering organization responsible for Deel's end-to-end financial infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, product, finance, and compliance, with direct impact on Deel's ability to scale globally and meet IPO-grade standards.

What You'll Do

• Own the Fintech Engineering Vision: Define and execute the technical strategy, building a scalable, modular architecture across payments, ledger, treasury, and compliance.
• Lead Product-Centric Engineering: Partner with Product, Finance, Treasury, and Compliance to ensure teams deliver business outcomes. Embed product thinking into engineering culture in the era of LLMs.
• Build for Scale: Design systems handling high transaction volumes and ensure idempotency, consistency, and fault tolerance across wallet-to-wallet flows, multi-currency handling, and payment processing.
• Deliver IPO-Grade Infrastructure: Drive execution across Controls (SOX readiness), Compliance (regulated entities, KYC, AML), and Accounting (fast close, General Ledger, MCP infrastructure).
• Build an AI-First Fintech Platform: Apply AI for code generation, automated matching in reconciliation, transaction monitoring, data integrity, and design MCP server infrastructure.
• Drive Operational Excellence: Establish strong engineering processes, SLAs, and build high-signal monitoring to ensure systems are audit-ready.
• Build and Scale Teams: Lead multiple teams (Payments, Ledger, Treasury, Billing, Fincrime) and hire, mentor, and develop senior engineering leaders and ICs.

What You Bring

• Proven experience as Head of Engineering / Director / Senior EM in fintech or financial systems (Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, Wise, Revolut, Coinbase, etc.).
• Deep experience with payments infrastructure, ledger/accounting systems, and high-scale distributed systems.
• Experience in regulated environments (KYC/AML, compliance systems, financial reporting constraints).
• Strong backend expertise (Node.js / TypeScript preferred) with deep understanding of event-driven architectures and data reconciliation.
• Experience scaling systems handling billions in transaction volume with strong audit trails.
• Experience managing multiple teams and senior leaders with the ability to translate business problems into technical solutions.
• Bonus: Experience preparing systems for IPO readiness (SOX, audit, close processes), automated reconciliation systems, and NetSuite/ERP integrations.
