Position Overview

We are looking for a deeply technical, product-minded Engineering Manager to own, scale, and mature the foundational Data Platform infrastructure driving Quillbot’s core product intelligence, behavioral experimentation, usage metering, and global growth campaigns. In this strategic technical leadership seat, you will manage a high-performing squad of data and platform engineers, treating our data architecture as an internal product optimized for maximum cross-functional developer experience. You will drive heavy architectural selections across batch and streaming pipelines, evaluate hardware cost efficiencies at consumer scale, and deliver reliable data streams critical for advanced GenAI research and capabilities training.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Platform Architecture Evolution: Own and govern the end-to-end technical roadmap of our distributed data platform to support large-scale, real-time, and batch processing models.
• Analytical Telemetry Design: Architect secure systems for product analytics, automated usage metering, event tracking, and growth experimentation loops.
• High-Performing Team Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and guide an elite squad of platform and data engineers, implementing structured career pathing and performance frameworks.
• Platform-as-a-Product Management: Improve the developer usability, interface access, and documentation layers of the platform for internal teams while defining clear platform metrics for adoption and latency.
• Cross-Functional AI Collaboration: Partner closely alongside AI, Product, Growth, and Marketing divisions to translate high-level business criteria into scalable data engineering transformation rules.
• Infrastructure Cost Optimization: Continually audit, scale, and optimize infrastructure architectures to secure high cost-efficiencies and return on investment across massive data clusters.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 7+ years of verified professional history running software or data engineering workflows, including at least 2+ years of explicit engineering management experience.
• Deep technical depth and architectural judgment scaling high-availability data platforms or distributed systems processing billions of events.
• Hands-on programming experience working inside backend software structures, specifically including Node.js and JavaScript ecosystems.
• Production-grade expertise operating big-data framework tools, including **Apache Spark, streaming environments, and ETL/ELT pipelines**.
• Proven capacity to manage cross-functional stakeholders, navigate technical trade-offs, and lead major infrastructure migrations over modern cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Outstanding verbal and written communication mechanics, optimized to present technical roadmaps smoothly to non-technical business nodes.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

• Prior experience supporting AI/ML research pipelines, automated feature stores, or growth analytics systems.
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks like React.js to help evaluate internal visualization tools or operational data dashboards.
• Experience managing data architectures that natively support massive direct-to-consumer digital services handling millions of monthly unique visitors.
