Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, deeply hands-on Database Administrator (DBA) to join our expanding Platform Engineering team. In this critical data infrastructure track, you will take absolute technical ownership of the design, deployment, query optimization, security, and uptime metrics of our entire production database fleet. Working cross-functionally with DevOps, Data Science, and core Software Engineering squads, you will maintain high-performing OLTP database models capable of handling business-critical client transaction loads securely. This position requires an engineering leader with strong troubleshooting instincts under pressure and a heavy bias for infrastructure automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Fleet Administration: Monitor, configure, patch, and maintain robust multi-engine production database clusters across PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Aurora, MongoDB, and MariaDB.
• High Availability Architecture: Architect and provision fault-tolerant infrastructure setups on AWS, utilizing Aurora global clusters, reader/writer endpoints, Multi-AZ deployments, and read replicas.
• Performance Optimization & Tuning: Diagnose transaction performance issues, managing index optimizations, query execution plans (EXPLAIN/ANALYZE), connection pooling via **pgBouncer/ProxySQL**, and auto-vacuum parameters.
• Disaster Recovery Governance: Implement and execute data backup policies, point-in-time recovery (PITR) workflows, and cross-region replication strategies, running routine recovery drills.
• Security & Encryption Controls: Enforce strict database access boundaries, leveraging role-based access control (RBAC), AWS IAM authentication, KMS encryption at rest, and automated secrets rotation.
• Telemetry & Automation Tooling: Eliminate operational toil by automating routine database schema adjustments and deployments using script arrays in **Bash or Python** combined with Infrastructure as Code (**Terraform/CloudFormation**).

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of verified hands-on professional history acting as a production Database Administrator for mission-critical enterprise systems.
• Deep understanding of relational database internals, including storage engines, transaction isolation levels, logical locking mechanisms, and MVCC.
• Advanced, production-grade technical mastery of **PostgreSQL administration**, streaming replication topologies, and database partition architectures.
• Proven background operating production cloud data stacks on AWS, monitoring infrastructure environments via CloudWatch and Performance Insights.
• Hands-on operational knowledge of NoSQL database clusters, specifically covering **MongoDB replica sets and sharding configurations**.
• Location Context: 100% remote-first full-time operational framework restricted exclusively to qualified database specialists permanently based inside **India or the Philippines**.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

• Prior experience supporting formal corporate audits from a data tier perspective, aligning access logs to meet **SOC 2, ISO 27001, or GDPR** frameworks.
• Familiarity with containerized database systems running beside Docker, Kubernetes, or Amazon EKS workloads.
• Familiarity with CI/CD schemas and migration orchestration platforms such as Liquibase or Flyway.
• Possession of verified cloud architecture credentials, specifically including the **AWS Certified Database - Specialty** or Solutions Architect tokens.
