About Render: Render is a premier, internationally recognized cloud infrastructure pioneer, developer experience (DX) innovator, and next-generation PaaS platform leader on an absolute mission to make cloud computing powerful, intuitive, and perfectly optimized for the speed of modern AI development. Trusted by over 6 million software developers globally and fresh off an additional $100M Series C financing round in February 2026 that brought total capitalization to $257M, Render manufactures a state-of-the-art alternative to legacy hyperscalers. The platform seamlessly unifies persistent compute nodes, dynamic infrastructure autoscaling, built-in service orchestration, and comprehensive real-time telemetry analytics under a single developer-first interface. Render eliminates complex infrastructure code, enabling technology-forward startups and scale-ups to move confidently from early MVP to high-volume production deployments safely across international networks.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical, infrastructure-minded Customer Engineer to join our core global Sales team in a full-time remote capacity within the United States. Reporting directly to the Head of Technical Sales, this is a highly sophisticated, high-ownership post-sales architectural engineering track designed for a seasoned cloud craftsman who skews heavily toward AI-native environments and speaks the language of CTOs, DevOps leads, and backend developers fluently. Moving entirely beyond traditional customer success account maintenance or basic helpdesk queuing, you will claim individual configuration accountability for the long-term technical health, platform adoption, and commercial expansion metrics (including NRR and expansion ARR) across our most valuable corporate accounts. You will serve as the named technical anchor, reviewing intricate multi-service network diagrams, resolving server-side database bottlenecks, and advising on production-grade machine learning deployments under rapid velocity conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- High-Value Portfolio Technical Governance: Serve as the dedicated, named technical authority for an elite portfolio of Render top tier accounts, primarily managing AI-native scale-ups, web services, and automated SaaS enterprises.
- Structured Platform Onboarding and Readiness: Lead comprehensive client environments setup tracks, managing database schema configurations, microservices mapping, team seat provisioning, and production-grade environment validation from day one.
- AI-Native Stack Infrastructure Advising: Guide engineering leads on optimal setup mechanics for production machine learning systems, advising natively on **LangChain, LlamaIndex**, and async inference queues using **OpenAI API** and Anthropic API connections.
- Vector Search and Cluster Optimization: Coordinate alongside data cells to rightsized infrastructure layouts for high-throughput vector database systems, reviewing connections natively across **Pinecone**, Weaviate, or standalone data warehouses.
- Telemetry and Proactive Health Monitoring: Proactively monitor real-time platform usage indicators—tracking service stability parameters, resource utilization spikes, and deployment failure trends to prevent degradation and mitigate account churn.
- Commercial Expansion and NRR Tracking: Partner closely alongside Account Executives to translate technical advice into structural expansion motions, surfacing organic upsell paths across higher compute tiers, Postgres scaling blocks, and preview environments.
- Executive Business Review Leadership: Formulate and deliver rigorous technical cadences, translating complex cloud billing metrics, optimization variables, and operational infrastructure data into business-relevant insights during regular EBRs and QBRs.
- Complex Engineering Escalation Triage: Function as the customer structural advocate, collaborating directly with internal core Product, Support, and DevOps Engineering units to isolate and eliminate high-priority cluster bugs transparently.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 8+ years of verified professional history running advanced post-sales systems engineering, developer tools consulting, technical account management, or cloud infrastructure solutions architecture.
- Deep, authoritative technical command of distributed web application architectures, with a production-tested track record configuring web services, background workers, load balancers, caching layers, and containerized deployments.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating alongside AI-native or AI-adjacent organizations, showing clear familiarity with Large Language Model integration patterns and model inference requirements.
- Proven commercial acumen, with a documented history tracking time-to-value performance, contributing to contract renewal frameworks, and measuring account health metrics including Net Revenue Retention (NRR).
- Outstanding verbal and written communication traits in fluent English, showcasing an absolute capability to distill abstract cloud infrastructure tradeoffs to a CTO while simultaneously sending clean, clear debugging steps to a developer in Slack.
- Location Context: Parameters open exclusively to qualified customer success engineers base-stationed permanently within the United States to operate 100% remotely from home under established sales alignment frameworks.
Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)
- Prior commercial history as a full-stack software engineer or DevOps systems manager, explicitly running production workloads on an enterprise PaaS platform (e.g., Render, Heroku, or Railway).
- Practical operational experience managing multi-service data migrations, including large database cutovers, data schema translations, or Heroku-to-Render architectural restructuring.
- Familiarity with usage-based or consumption-driven utility pricing rules, showing the ability to guide enterprise clients on how to optimize server costs as they scale database parameters.
- Background producing client-facing developer content, including infrastructure scaling playbooks, best practice architecture guides, or internal technical runbooks.
What We Offer
- High-Yield U.S. Salaried Baseline: An attractive full-time base salary scale structured transparently between $162,000 – $210,000 USD per year, calibrated precisely to reward your cloud infrastructure authority and account retention velocity, supplemented by corporate option structures.
- The exceptional professional canvas to directly direct, shape, and code-engineer the technical success trajectories of America fastest-growing AI platforms using Render intelligent cloud solutions.
- Profound work-from-home remote parameters providing an elite digital workspace, complete scheduling trust, and zero physical geographic office commuting friction within the United States.
- Immediate eligibility to enroll in comprehensive corporate equity ownership programs featuring early-exercise options and extended exercise windows.
- Access to uncompromised health calibration benefits, including **100% employer-paid medical coverage** and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage lines for you and an eligible dependent (FSA/HSA systems available).
- Secure long-term financial provisions via active corporate 401(k) investment framework access, life insurance channels, and long-term disability parameters.
- Elite lifestyle perks, including **4 weeks of paid initial vacation**, 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave, a monthly home office stipend for remote workers, a monthly cell phone and internet subsidy, and a dedicated monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, hobbies, and therapy.
