Job Description
Black Diamond is developing a series of cinematic sound moments for the artist Bastet’s upcoming EP. These moments function like narrative "chapters" within a short film, sitting between tracks to enhance the story without overpowering the music. This role is not about creating full songs or beats. It is about cinematic sound design, environmental audio, and narrative transitions that feel intentional and immersive.
Scope of Work (The 4 Key Moments)
- Post–Sandman Transition: A portable, cinematic sound cue suggesting the world waking up. Needs to feel like "dawn" or "emergence"—subtle and forward-moving.
- End of “Memories at Midnight”: Rain on a windshield as the track closes. Quiet, intimate, and reflective. It should feel like an exhale.
- Green Room → Stage Transition: A narrative scene where a tour manager knocks, asks if she’s ready, and leads Bastet down a hallway. This requires spatial audio—ambient buildup as the crowd grows louder, transitioning seamlessly into the energy of the next track, "Cairo Bounce."
- End of EP – The McLaren: A McLaren engine revs, burns rubber, and drives away. This symbolizes motion and destiny. It needs to sound cinematic and expensive, not like a cheap stock sound effect.
Requirements
- Experience: Strong background in Cinematic Sound Design, Film Audio, or Narrative-Driven Music.
- Skillset: Ability to design realistic yet stylized environments (Rain, Crowds, Engines, Room Tones).
- Timing: Excellent sense of pacing and emotional restraint; knowing when to let the sound breathe and when to build tension.
- Resources: Access to high-quality sound libraries or the ability to record/source clean, cinematic audio (No low-quality MP3 rips).
- Technical: Ability to deliver stems and full-resolution audio files suitable for mastering.
Nice to Have
- Background in film trailers or long-form narrative audio.
- Experience working on Concept Albums (think The Weeknd's Dawn FM or Kendrick Lamar's GKMC).
- Understanding of how sound design translates across streaming platforms (Spotify/Apple Music normalization).
