Position Overview

We are seeking a highly sophisticated, systems-minded AI Engineer (Contract role) to join our core Customer Service Transformation Programme cell in a full-time remote contract capacity within the United Kingdom. Embedded directly into our high-velocity AI & Agents squad, you will claim individual technical accountability for designing, implementation, and scaling the secure, high-throughput agentic AI layers backing our customer-facing platforms. Moving entirely away from standard wrapper installations or basic API tinkering, you will operate at the intense intersection of cloud orchestration, prompt engineering at production scale, and advanced full-stack language model integrations running on AWS. This high-agency contract seat demands a seasoned software craftsman with 5+ years of engineering background who commands production-grade TypeScript and Python, structures complex supervisor/collaborator agent meshes comfortably under pressure, and shapes architectural choices visible to senior corporate stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Agentic AI Platform Governance: Architect, implement, and govern multi-tenant agentic workflows and customer-facing chat ecosystems natively hosted within the AI Engineer infrastructure on AWS.
• AWS Bedrock Ecosystem Control: Configure, refine, and deploy model runtimes natively leveraging AWS Bedrock, including the hands-on design of automated Action Groups, Guardrails, and Knowledge Base integrations.
• Multi-Agent Orchestration Tuning: Design and wire complex multi-agent collaboration patterns, establishing performant routing topologies for supervisor, collaborator, and handoff event models using Anthropic Claude Sonnet.
• Production-Scale Prompt Engineering: Author, maintain, and evaluate production-level prompt structures, implementing rigorous version control, A/B multi-variable testing, and semantic regression methodologies.
• Lambda Fulfillment Integration: Code and deploy serverless fulfillment endpoints natively utilizing TypeScript (primary) and Python Scripting (secondary) architectures via AWS Lambda backed by precise OpenAPI tool specifications.
• Vector Database Triage: Integrate and query high-scale vector data environments, managing index schemas and embedding retrievals natively inside OpenSearch Serverless, Pinecone, or equivalent stores.
• Agent WorkSpace Feature Expansion: Develop and roll out cutting-edge intelligent interface tooling, explicitly coding modules for real-time customer alerts, automated complaint indicators, and automated Agent Note Takers.
• Architectural Stakeholder Alignment: Contribute clearly to core architectural choices, authoring system specs and presenting technical data-flow maps transparently to multi-department enterprise boards and senior stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of verified professional history running advanced software engineering, backend full-stack development, cloud-native application design, or systems architecture delivery.
• A minimum of 2+ years of hands-on, commercial experience developing, monitoring, and scaling customer-facing AI and Large Language Model (LLM) systems within a live production environment.
• Deep, authoritative technical command of cloud-based machine learning operations, showcasing a distinct history deploying automated pipelines natively within AWS Bedrock.
• Demonstrated development proficiency coding complex business logic and serverless infrastructure components natively using TypeScript and Python Scripting languages.
• Strong quantitative background running vector space search workflows, text tokenization, data chunking strategies, or multi-agent handoff routines.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication mechanics in fluent English, with a proven ability to synthesize messy technical blocks into polished guidance for diverse audiences.
• Location Context: Parameters open exclusively to qualified contract AI engineers based permanently anywhere within the United Kingdom to execute 100% remotely from home under global virtual collaboration arrangements.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

• Prior commercial experience navigating the advanced managed agent runtime environment, specifically demonstrating hands-on familiarity with Amazon Bedrock AgentCore patterns.
• Practical exposure building smart interfaces using Amazon Agent Assist, voice-native AI engines (such as Nova Sonic), or voice LLM telephony platforms.
• Demonstrated expertise designing advanced Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) retrieval evaluations, customized text embedding model selections, and optimized chunking strategies.
• Familiarity with enterprise AI safety alignments, compliance frameworks, and deep AI guardrail setting boundaries to block prompt injection vulnerabilities.
