Position Overview

We are seeking an exceptional, high-agency Senior Software Engineer, Mobile to step in as our Founding Mobile Engineer. In this zero-to-one infrastructure role, you will take absolute technical ownership of Payabli’s mobile SDK ecosystem from scratch. Instead of building a closed app, you will architect native SDKs embedded across hundreds of partners’ host applications. This role demands a platform-focused engineer who obsesses over developer ergonomics, backward compatibility, and minimal binary footprints while seamlessly connecting software logic to hardware payment peripherals.

Key Responsibilities

• Founding SDK Architecture: Design, develop, and scale native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) SDK software packages from the ground up for direct external integration.
• Hardware Peripheral Integration: Connect mobile codebases natively with physical hardware components, orchestrating seamless communication loops across NFC radios, Bluetooth point-of-sale (POS) devices, and card readers.
• Developer Experience Optimization: Craft highly intuitive, clean, and self-documenting API contracts, ensuring error handling structures and integration workflows are impossible for partner engineers to misuse.
• Fintech Security Hardening: Enforce strict embedded security primitives on-device, including secure data storage, cryptographic network certificate pinning, and resilient offline operational capabilities.
• Distribution Lifecycle Control: Define the engineering patterns for automated compilation, continuous testing, semantic versioning, and package distribution frameworks.
• Resilient System Convergence: Partner with core platform architects and SRE teams to bridge async mobile operations with background transactional APIs, ensuring deep observability.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of verified professional experience engineering native mobile production systems that external developers or high-volume end users depend on.
• Deep, surface-defying programming proficiency in Swift (iOS) and/or Kotlin (Android), with a comprehensive grasp of platform threading rules and application lifecycles.
• Proven tracking record building public or enterprise SDKs, frameworks, or shared libraries consumed by other engineers.
• Solid grasp of structural architectural patterns, specifically MVVM or Clean Architecture paradigms.
• Demonstrated capability designing for async networking, network retry logic, local caching, and graceful degradation during network drops.
• Location Context: 100% remote-first operational infrastructure flexibility open to qualified mobile engineers permanently residing within the United States.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

• Direct technical history integrating mobile payment processing systems (e.g., Stripe, Square, Adyen) or card presentation logic.
• Experience managing public repository package distributions leveraging Swift Package Manager, CocoaPods, Maven, or Gradle.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, quantitative engineering, or equivalent foundational background.
